Apêl Cemo Bronglais / Bronglais Chemo Appeal

Staff meithrinfa yn cynllunio taith gerdded ar gyfer Apêl Cemo Bronglais

Nursery staff plan hike for
Bronglais Chemo Appeal

Mae staff Gofal Plant Gogerddan yn heicio i fyny Cadair Idris ar 22 Hydref i godi arian ar gyfer Apêl Cemo Bronglais ar ôl i un o’u cydweithwyr gael diagnosis o ganser y fron.

Staff at Gogerddan Childcare are hiking up Cadair Idris on 22nd October to raise money for the Bronglais Chemo Appeal after one of their colleagues was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Mae pedwar ar ddeg o’r 28 o staff ym meithrinfa’r plant ym Mhenrhyn-coch yn cymryd rhan ac maen nhw’n rhannu’n ddau grŵp, un yn gwneud y daith gerdded 11 milltir lawn i’r copa ac yn ôl ar lwybr Minffordd, a’r llall yn gwneud y daith fyrrach, taith chwe milltir i’r llyn, Llyn Cau, ac yn ôl.

Dywedodd Rheolwr Gyfarwyddwr y feithrinfa, Emma Healy: “Rydyn ni’n gwybod y bydd y daith gerdded yn anodd, gydag esgyniad o 4,000 troedfedd, ond rydyn ni’n gobeithio cwblhau sialens y copa lawn mewn wyth awr. Rydym yn mynd i fod yn gwneud rhywfaint o hyfforddiant ar y llwybr arfordirol i geisio paratoi ein hunain.

“Roedden ni eisiau cefnogi’r Apêl oherwydd bod un o’n haelodau staff, Jacqueline Walters, yn derbyn triniaeth yn yr uned ddydd cemotherapi ar hyn o bryd ac mae hi’n gweld yn uniongyrchol sut mae angen uned newydd a’r effaith y bydd yn ei chael.

“Hefyd, mae rhai o’r staff wedi colli anwyliaid i ganser ac roedden ni i gyd eisiau helpu’r Apêl i gyrraedd ei tharged.”

Cafodd Jacqueline, 51, sy’n nyrs feithrin yn y ganolfan gofal plant ac yn byw ym Mronnant, ddiagnosis o ganser y fron ym mis Ebrill ac ar ôl llawdriniaeth mae bellach yn derbyn cemotherapi yn yr uned.

Dywedodd: “Rwyf wrth fy modd bod fy nghydweithwyr yn codi arian ar gyfer yr Apêl. Mae staff yr uned i gyd wedi bod yn wych.”

Dywedodd Bridget Harpwood, Swyddog Codi Arian ar gyfer Elusennau Iechyd Hywel Dda: “Lansiwyd Apêl Cemo Bronglais i godi’r £500,000 terfynol sydd ei angen ar gyfer y gwaith adeiladu i ddechrau ar uned ddydd cemotherapi bwrpasol newydd ar gyfer Ysbyty Bronglais.

“Rydym yn falch iawn o adrodd bod yr Apêl bellach wedi pasio ei tharged. Fodd bynnag, o ystyried yr hinsawdd economaidd bresennol, rydym yn rhagweld y bydd costau adeiladu yn cynyddu. Bydd pob ceiniog a godir, gan gynnwys rhoddion yn y dyfodol, felly yn mynd yn uniongyrchol i gronfa’r Apêl, gydag unrhyw arian dros ben yn cael ei ddefnyddio i gefnogi’r rhai yr effeithir arnynt gan ganser ar draws Ceredigion a chanolbarth Cymru.”

At least 14 of the 28 staff at the children’s nursery in Penrhyn-coch are taking part and they are splitting into two groups, one doing the full 11-mile walk to the summit and back on the Minffordd path, and the other doing the shorter six-mile walk to the lake, Llyn Cau, and back.

Managing Director of the nursery, Emma Healy, said: “We know the hike will be tough, with an ascent of 4,000 feet, but we are hoping to complete the full summit challenge in eight hours. We are going to be doing some training on the coastal path to try to prepare ourselves.

“We wanted to support the Appeal because one of our staff members, Jacqueline Walters, is currently receiving treatment at the chemotherapy day unit and she is seeing first-hand how a new unit is needed and the impact it will have.

“Also, some of the staff have lost loved ones to cancer and we all wanted to help the Appeal to reach its target.”

Jacqueline, 51, who is a nursery nurse at the childcare centre and lives in Bronant, was diagnosed with breast cancer in April and after surgery is now receiving chemotherapy at the unit.

She said: “I am over the moon that my colleagues are fundraising for the Appeal. The staff at the unit have all been brilliant. I am going to be sponsoring one of my teddy bears to go on the hike with them.”

Bridget Harpwood, Fundraising Officer for Hywel Dda Health Charities, said: “The Bronglais Chemo Appeal was launched to raise the final £500,000 needed for construction to start on a new, purpose-built chemotherapy day unit for Bronglais Hospital.

“We are delighted to report that the Appeal has now passed its target. However, given the current economic climate, we predict that construction costs will increase. Every penny raised, including future donations, will therefore go directly to the Appeal fund, with any surplus funds used to support those affected by cancer across Ceredigion and mid Wales.”
