Coed tân / Firewood

Gofynnwyd i ni (Arbcore, Pen-bont Rhydybeddau) gael gwared â’r coed ynn yn y parc ym Mhen-bont Rhydybeddau. Mae’r coed hyn wedi’u heintio â Chalara (Ash Dieback).
Byddwn yn gwneud y gwaith am ddim, a bydd tipyn o goed tân ar gael wedi inni orffen. Byddwn yn gadael y logiau mewn man diogel i drigolion lleol eu casglu. Mae croeso ichi helpu eich hunain, ac os oes modd ichi wneud cyfraniad i’r gronfa gymunedol byddem yn ddiolchgar (Carolyn Griffiths, trysorydd).
Gofynnwn yn garedig ichi gymryd yr hyn sydd ei angen arnoch fel bod digon ar gael i’r trigolion lleol.

We (Arbcore, Pen-bont Rhydybeddau) have been asked to dismantle the Ash trees in the park at Pen-bont Rhydybeddau. These trees are infected with Chalara (Ash Dieback disease).
The work is to be carried out free of charge. There will be a quantity of good firewood created from the work. We will be leaving the logs in a safe way for locals to collect. Anyone collecting and able to give a donation to the community fund should do so (Carolyn Griffiths, treasurer).
If a collector cannot afford to do so, please still help yourself. We ask that everyone takes just what they need and leaves the rest for another local.

Cyfweliad annisgwyl gyda seren bêl-droed ar drothwy’r Ewros / Surprise interview with football superstar on Euros’ eve

Fore Iau 10 Mehefin, cafodd disgyblion Ysgol Gynradd Penrhyn-coch ac Ysgol Gyfun Penweddig alwad Zoom annisgwyl yr holl ffordd o Baku, prifddinas Azerbaijan. Cafodd yr alwad ei gwneud gan Ben Davies, chwaraewr pêl-droed proffesiynol dros Gymru, sydd ar hyn o bryd mewn gwersyll gyda gweddill tîm pêl-droed cenedlaethol Cymru yn Baku cyn eu gêm agoriadol yn nhwrnamaint Ewro 2020 yn erbyn y Swistir ddydd Sadwrn.

Ar ôl y sioc gychwynnol o weld Ben yn ymddangos ar y sgrin o’u blaenau, cafodd disgyblion o Flwyddyn 3 i Flwyddyn 6 Ysgol Penrhyn-coch a disgyblion Blwyddyn 7 Ysgol Penweddig gyfle i gyfweld â Ben. Cynhaliwyd y cyfweliad, a drefnwyd yn rhan o Siarter Iaith Ceredigion, drwy gyfrwng y Gymraeg.

Roedd yn amlwg o’r wynebau hapus fod yr holl ddisgyblion wedi mwynhau’r profiad arbennig hwn yn fawr iawn, a’i fod yn brofiad y byddant yn ei gofio am byth. Roedd angerdd y plant yn arwydd o’r gefnogaeth gref sydd i Ben a gweddill tîm Cymru yng Ngheredigion.

Nid oedd yr un o’r disgyblion yn gwybod am y cyfweliad ymlaen llaw. Yr unig gliw a roddwyd gan yr ysgolion oedd y gofynnwyd i bob un o’r disgyblion wisgo coch i’r ysgol ddydd Iau.

Diolch yn fawr Ben Davies. Ewch amdani Gymru!”

Atebodd Ben lawer o gwestiynau’r disgyblion. Roedd Twm Aron Williams a Caio Brychan, disgyblion o Ysgol Penrhyn-coch sy’n gefnogwyr brwd i Ben, yn ddau o’r disgyblion lwcus hynny. “Pe gallet ti ddewis tîm pêl-droed pump-bob-ochr ffantasi, pwy fyddai ynddo?” Ar ôl ateb, gofynnodd Ben yr un cwestiwn i Caio, a atebodd ar unwaith: “Ti ac yna Bale, Ramsey, Moore a Hennessey!”

Dywedodd Dr Rhodri Thomas, Pennaeth Ysgol Penweddig: “Braf oedd gweld ymateb disgyblion blwyddyn 7 i’r sesiwn gyda Ben Davies heddiw. Roedd y disgyblion wedi gwerthfawrogi’r cyfle i ddarganfod mwy am y profiad o gynrychioli’ch gwlad a phwysigrwydd ymarfer, gwaith caled a dilyn cyngor eraill er mwyn llwyddo. Mae disgyblion blwyddyn 7 wedi cynhyrfu ac yn edrych ymlaen at gefnogi Cymru yn y gystadleuaeth dros yr wythnosau nesaf. Pob lwc i’r tîm yn Rhufain a Baku!”

Dywedodd Finley Saycell, disgybl blwyddyn 7 yn Ysgol Penweddig “Roedd y profiad heddiw yn un arbennig. Diolch i bawb oedd wedi rhoi’r cyfle i ni. Roedd yn ardderchog. Siaradais â Ben Davies – un o chwaraewyr gorau Cymru!”

Mae Ben Davies wedi ennill dros 50 o gapiau dros Gymru ac wedi chwarae yn yr Ewros o’r blaen yn 2016. Mynychodd Ben, a anwyd yng Nghymru, Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera, Castell-nedd Port Talbot.

Yn dilyn y cyfweliad dywedodd Ben Davies: “Roedd hi’n hyfryd siarad gyda’r plant a gweld y gefnogaeth sydd yna i ni – WAW!”

On Thursday morning 10 June, pupils from Ysgol Gynradd Penrhyn-coch and Ysgol Gyfun Penweddig received an unexpected Zoom call all the way from Baku, capital city of Azerbaijan. The call was made from Ben Davies, Welsh professional footballer, who is currently located at a camp with the rest of the Welsh national football team in Baku, ahead of their Euro 2020 opener game against Switzerland on Saturday.

After the initial shock of seeing the live image of Ben appear on the screen in front of them, Pupils from Year 3 to Year 6 of Ysgol Penrhyn-coch and Year 7 pupils of Ysgol Penweddig were given the opportunity to interview Ben. The interview, which was organised as part of the Ceredigion Welsh Language Charter, was conducted through the medium of Welsh.

It was clear from the big grins that all the pupils enjoyed this special experience considerably and one that will be well remembered. The passion from the children was an indicator of the strong support there is for Ben and the rest of the Welsh team in Ceredigion.

None of the pupils knew about the interview beforehand. The only clue given by the schools that something was happening was that pupils were all told to wear red to school on Thursday.

Liwsi Curley, a pupil of Ysgol Penrhyn-coch said: “I’m in shock to see one of my heroes live on zoom! It’s been a special experience and one of the happiest experiences of my life. Thank you very much Ben Davies. Go for it Wales!”

Ben answered many of the pupils’ questions. Twm Aron Williams and Caio Brychan, pupils of Ysgol Penrhyn-coch, who are big fans of Ben were two of those lucky pupils. Caio asked Ben: “If you could choose a five-a-side football fantasy team who would be in it?” After answering, Ben asked the same question back to Caio, who answered immediately with: “You and then Bale, Ramsey, Moore and Hennessey!”

Dr Rhodri Thomas, Headteacher of Ysgol Penweddig said: It was pleasing to see the response of year 7 pupils to the session with Ben Davies today. The pupils appreciated the opportunity to find out more about the experience of representing your country and the importance of practising, hard work and following advice from others in order to succeed. Year 7 pupils are excited now and look forward to supporting Wales in the competition over the next few weeks. Good luck to the team in Rome and Baku!”

Finley Saycell, a Year 7 pupil of Ysgol Penweddig said: “Today’s experience was a special one. I thank everyone who had given us the opportunity. It was excellent. I spoke to Ben Davies – one of Wales’s best players!”

Ben Davies has won over 50 caps for Wales and previously played in the Euros in 2016. Welsh-born Ben attended Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera, Neath Port Talbot.

Following the interview, Ben Davies said: “It was lovely to speak to the children and see the support that there is for us – WOW!”
